THE CREATIVE ACADEMY

The Creative Academy is a five month incubator program where actors in process learn how to discover, develop, and maximize their unique storytelling capabilities through consecutive writing, producing, and marketing workshops. In concert with in class lessons, students will work outside of the classroom putting teachings to practice both on and off set. 

Within the Creative Academy, students will: 

  • Write and develop an original short film or proof of concept for a longer form project
  • Identify their brand
  • Learn how to market themselves by utilizing social media and public relations opportunities
  • Produce a professional acting reel in line with their branding and marketing strategy
  • Receive an on camera interview with a nationally-produced entertainment TV series along with IMDB credit
  • Develop, produce, and showcase an original short film (or proof of concept) within a virtual film festival for invited reps, filmmakers, and fellow creatives

Ideal For: Students ready to become confident in their unique storytelling abilities and ultimately raise their audition-to-booking ratio.

Instructor(s): Toni Fox

Description: The workshop is actually a hands-on, training opportunity for actors to learn how to market themselves! As an actor YOU are your BRAND. Participants will learn how to craft the 5 W’s of their own story to effectively market themselves. The very important – Who, What, When Where, and Why? Participants will learn tips on bios, social media & PR opportunities. Each student will be featured in an interview story package on “Sidewalks Entertainment,” a nationally-produced entertainment TV series and/or its official website at SIDEWALKSTV.com as a part of our new upcoming actor spotlight segment. In addition, students will receive IMDB credit for the show they are featured on.

Instructor(s): Angie Bridget Jones

Description: This ongoing workshop serves as a supportive environment for actors to learn the skills needed for writing their own material. Whether you have a feature length screenplay you’ve never heard out loud or a jumbled concept scribbled on a napkin, this workshop will give you the foundational tools needed for developing your story and its characters toward your next draft.

Be an On-Air Correspondent on “Sidewalks Entertainment” 

Instructor(s): Richard R. Lee

Description: The workshop is actually a hands-on, training opportunity for potential on-air correspondents to do hosting intros and various types of interviews with real celebrity guests and other personalities. Participants will learn some tips in different forms of interviewing style, including interviewing individuals on media press tours. Most of the training opportunities may be used on the media properties of “Sidewalks Entertainment,” a nationally-produced entertainment TV series and/or its official website at SIDEWALKSTV.com.  Each student will receive an on-air role based on their performances in class, to do a segment introduction or a full celebrity’s interview. In addition, students will receive IMDB credit for the show they are featured on.

Instructor(s): Alani iLongwe

Description: Utilizing the branding and marketing tools you learned with Tori, we will take a deep dive into crafting the type of career you want before creating a dynamic reel highlighting the project and roles you want an agent to send you out for. This class puts students in the driver’s seat as they will be tasked with producing their reels with the guidance of their instructor. From pre-production to post, students will learn how to create a project budget (line produce), strategically fundraise, assemble a full creative team, and ultimately executive produce their own acting reel. In addition this class will offer the foundational tools needed for Producing for Actors II: Short Form Content.

Instructor(s): Alani iLongwe

Description: Over the course of 8 weeks, students will utilize develop and executive produce an original short film starring themselves. Guided by their instructor, students will line produce, fundraise, create a marketing plan, hire a production team, and oversee the full production and post production of their short film. Upon completion, students will showcase their work in a Virtual Film Festival hosted by OCAS for invited talent reps, casting directors, and fellow creatives in June of 2021.
